Our trip to the lifeboat station

As part of our topic on Superheroes we all went on a visit to Barry Lifeboat Station. We heard about the history of the RNLI. We were able to look at the clothing the lifeboat men wear and both staff and pupils were given the opportunity to dress up in the clothing.  We also learned about keeping safe on the beach and in the sea. As it was a dry day we went to Barry Island to eat our lunch and play on the beach. Thank you to all the parents for their donation included in the cost of the trip and Barry lifeboat station received a cheque for £80. We have received a letter from them thanking us very much for our generosity.

Italy

As part of our termly topic we have been looking at Italy. We found out many facts about the country and discovered that pizza wasn't a British food! We decided to make our own and it was delicious.
We all took turns in creating them, the passata went on first followed by a sprinkling of mixed herbs, a generous helping of ham and then topped off with cheese. Have a look at our photos below.

Kerbcraft

During October and November, 2 very nice ladies from Kerbcraft, Road Safety have been coming in to school to teach us how to cross our very busy roads safely. They have been teaching us to stand behind the kerb, how to find a safe place to cross and how to cross the road safely between parked cars. We still have a lot to learn in the next few weeks.

Cardiff Castle

On Thursday 17th September we visited Cardiff Castle as part of our topic work entitled Long ago and Far Away. We saw the Birds of Prey as we walked around the castle grounds. After we ate our lunch the keeper brought out the barn owl and Eagle owl for some exercise and we were able to sit and watch them fly very close to us!
On our tour of the castle we saw many rooms including the nursery, library and banqueting room where not so long ago Barack Obama, the Queen and other important people sat to eat a meal. Some people even have their wedding breakfast in there! All the rooms were brightly decorated and our guide told us all about the pictures and animals painted on the walls.

Finally we had a storytelling session with a man called Dyfed. We made our own version of Cinderella and he recorded our voices and will be putting it onto a CD and sending it to us in the near future.
As it was such sunny day we ate our lunch outside on the picnic benches. The whole day was great fun!

Braces Bread

Braces Bread visited our school to show the children how bread is made and distributed to the shops.  The children dressed up as bakers and had a go at making their own bread and had a lot of fun with the dough. Braces kindly gave every child a loaf of bread and an activity pack to take home with them.

PC Rob Thomas

PC Rob Thomas visited us yesterday to discuss how important it is that we do the right thing when we find things in the street or the park.

We talked about what we would do if we found a purse or a phone and we would need to give it to an adult and phone 101. The police would then come and pick it up.

If we saw tablets or medicines in the park or on the street we should put them in the bin because little children might think they are sweets.

PC Rob told us about how dangerous needles are and that we must NOT touch them. We must tell an adult to phone the police on 101 or phone the council because they are the only people who can pick the needles up to take them away.

We learnt lots of safe things to do with PC Rob!
